Biochemistry

The clinical biochemistry department primarily carries out testing of fluids (mainly on blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluids, and occasionally on miscellaneous other body cavities) over a wide variety of areas – electrolytes, liver function tests, renal function, diabetes testing, lipid testing, proteins, endocrine testing, cardiac markers, iron studies, tumour markers, therapeutic and some toxicological drugs.

As with all laboratory testing, clinical chemistry results are part of the essential background for all of current medical practice, which is often only appreciated by both doctors and patients when a reliable and accurate service is not available.
