Northern Pathology Victoria (NPV) has been established as the public pathology provider for Northern Health and our northern community, and is the first new public pathology service in 30-40 years.
NPV is responsible for our four integrated care centres (Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, and Craigieburn Centre) and will operate one main laboratory at Northern Hospital Epping, along with collection centres at the all the campuses.
Our laboratory supports patient care by providing pathology testing focused on patient safety, clinical efficacy and quality reporting. NPV’s Core Laboratory will have a Total Lab Automation system being implemented mid-2020 and currently has cutting-edge molecular techniques to facilitate rapid microbial identification.
As a laboratory of an academic teaching hospital, we are focused on supporting the research development of new technologies, particularly in the field of thrombosis and cardiovascular medicine, supported by our thrombosis research laboratory and special coagulation services department.
The pathology service will initially provide Haematology, Transfusion Medicine, Microbiology and Biochemistry testing for all in, out and private patients. We are partnered with Alfred Pathology Service for anatomical pathology and complex testing services.
