The Anatomical Pathology department at Northern Pathology Victoria incorporates both histology and cytology. Cytology refers to the structure and function of individual cells from a fluid specimen, examined under a microscope. Whereas, Histopathology is the examination of tissues, taken from a biopsy or surgical specimens, which are also examined under a microscope.
At Northern Pathology Victoria we provide a comprehensive general diagnostic service which includes Liver/GI, Gynecological pathology, Breast, Skin, Lung, Uro-oncology, Lymphoma and Melanoma.
The cytopathology service is a non-gynecological service provided by experienced cytologists.
We provide a diagnostic service for all Northern Health campus inpatients, and to any patient who has been referred by their General Practitioner or Specialist.
