Prof. Prahlad Ho MBBS(Hons) PhD BMedSc FRACP FRCPA
Professor Prahlad Ho is a clinical and laboratory haematologist who went through most of his training at Northern Health, commencing as an intern in 2006. Prahlad was the Director of Clinical Haematology at Northern Health and was instrumental in expanding the Thrombosis Service. In addition, he was appointed Divisional Director of Cancer Services and Specialist Clinics and led the development of the Cancer Clinical Trial Unit. He was also the inaugural Director of Northern Pathology Victoria and Divisional Director of Diagnostic Services, and led the introduction of in-house pathology and radiology services at Northern Health.
Prahlad is actively involved in clinical and laboratory research and has published in multiple international peer-reviewed journals. He heads the NorthErn Clinical diagnostics and ThrombovAscular Research Centre (NECTAR) and is the Principal Investigator in numerous clinical trials. Furthermore, he chairs Research Executive Committee leading the research strategy for Northern Health. He is an adjunct Professor at the School of Health and Biomedical Sciences at RMIT University and also holds honorary positions at Melbourne and Monash Universities.
Director of Pathology
Dr. Frank Hong MBBS, FRACP, FRCPA
Dr. Hong has been working as a clinical haematologist at Northern Health since 2011 and took up the position of Director of Pathology in Sep 2019.
Before joining Northern Pathology Victoria, Dr Hong worked as a laboratory haematologist at Austin Pathology for a number of years. He was also a sessional Transfusion Medicine Specialist at Australian Red Cross Blood Service from 2010-2019.
Head of Chemical Pathology
Dr. Kay Weng Choy MBBS, FRCPA, FAACB
Dr. Choy graduated from the University of Melbourne and undertook training in Chemical Pathology at Monash Medical Centre. He gained Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2019. He also has a sessional appointment at Dorevitch Pathology.
Head of Microbiology
Dr. Yvonne Hersusianto MBBS (Hons), FRACP, FRCPA, MPH
Dr. Hersusianto graduated with First Class Honours in Medicine from the University of Melbourne and undertook advanced training in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at St Vincent’s Hospital and Royal Melbourne Hospital. She gained Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 2012 and has worked in both private and public health sectors. In 2009, she also completed a Masters of Public Health in International Health, in keeping with her long standing interest in tropical infections and public health in developing countries.
Head of Diagnostic Haematology/Transfusion Medicine
Dr Hui Yin Lim MBBS (Hons) PhD BMedSci FRACP FRCPA
Dr Yin Lim graduated with First Class Honours in Medicine from the University of Melbourne and undertook advanced training in clinical and laboratory Haematology at Austin Hospital and Northern Hospital. She gained Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 2017. She is a clinical and laboratory haematologist with a special interest in Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and is the Clinical Thrombosis Lead for Northern Health. She is also the current Chair of the Standard 7 Blood Management Committee.
She completed a PhD in 2022 in the evaluation of global coagulation assay in high risk cardiovascular patients as a recipient of the co-funded National Health and Medical Research Council and Heart Foundation (NHMRC/NHF) Postgraduate scholarship. She is a current Melbourne Postdoctoral Fellow and heads the thrombovascular arm of the NECTAR (Northern Clinical Diagnostics and Thrombovascular Reseach) Centre.
Consultant Haematologist
Dr Teresa Leung
Dr Teresa Leung is a general haematologist with a broad range of clinical Haematology experiences. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Melbourne, and undertook her haematology training at institutions including Austin Hospital, (clinical and diagnostic laboratory haematology), as well as the Royal Melbourne Hospital (clinical haematology and bone marrow transplant service).
Dr Leung works both as a Clinical and Laboratory Haematologist at Northern Hospital Epping. She has a special interest in multiple myeloma and low grade lymphomas, and is a visiting haematologist to Alfred Health’s Myeloma clinic.
